Long ago, a tryst with destiny was made, “…and now that time comes when we shall redeem our pledge, at the stroke of the midnight hour when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom…” said Jawaharlal Nehru on 15th of August 1947.
Let us commemorate that moment again! It is time to raise our hands and salute our national flag, fluttering up in the air with its tricolor of greatness, fervor, and enthusiasm. We should not forget the contributions of the past generations in achieving the freedom we enjoy today. Let us pray for the peace of the families of those whom we lost to the motherland – who fought for us and gave their lives on the battle.
Independence Day in 2021 will look very different than those in the past. This year we must put lights on the more minor freedoms we enjoy as citizens by quarantining ourselves to protect the health of our communities. Let us step up and make the sacrifice for the betterment of all.
We can say to ourselves, “I decided to stay home to protect the health of my neighbors. I do not have to, but I will because I am free to make choices to support the greater good.” Technology remains a holy grail during this crisis. What if we did not have phones, computers, apps, websites, etc., to connect with people – how would we then stay in touch? The Technology is definitely the ground beneath our feet, helping our relationships bloom, businesses blossom and keeping people aware and informed.
This Independence Day, we should all take time out of our day to celebrate exactly how different forms of businesses have been liberated in recent times with the emergence of unique technologies and automation. A unique form of business that has helped liberate multiple industries is the advent of e-commerce. It is a new age platform that links the manufacturers, retailers, and final consumers on one common platform.
“It is not the strongest or the most intelligent who will survive but those who can best manage change” – Leon C. Megginson
It has been 75 years since that stroke of midnight when India became free. Though broken by many consequences, India found its bent and has created an identity for itself. With growing sovereignty, a polestar of knowledge and trade, India has carved a niche for herself in these 75 years. Let us look back at companies which started as a small business before our Independence in turbulent times. These brands have truly survived the test of time and now have become synonymous to our nation.
Tata group (1868) started as a Cotton mill, now has operations in more than 100 countries and exports to over 150 countries
Dabur (1884) started as a small Clinic of Ayurvedic medicines, now is said to be the fourth largest FMCG Company in the country
Godrej (1897) started as a Lock making business; now, it is a global brand that has its operations across all different sectors
Nilgiris (1905) started as a Butter business, now it is iconic in most south Indian homes and is a subsidiary under Future Consumer Enterprises
Rooh Afza (1907) started as a small Clinic for Unani medicines; now, famousin every household. Today, Falooda is not complete without Rooh Afza
Vadilal (1907) started as a Soda company; now, it is the second-largest ice-cream player in India
MTR (1924) started as a restaurant, now represents two entities – the
restaurant business and the pre-packaged food business
They survived their era from being a small business to a big giant brand of the nation. Are you ready to survive your era?
Remember, just because we are socially distanced does not mean we have to be disconnected. It does not mean we need to be stuck or frozen in time. This fifteenth of August, we should be extra grateful for the freedom we enjoy in using technology to communicate freely across several channels and the opportunity to advance in it – to learn and grow.
More courage and strength to you from Global Professionals!
Happy fifteenth of August!
Happy Independence of the new era!
